Striking and fielding
CYCLE: II and III ACTIVITY LEVEL: Medium
MATERIAL: any types of baseball bats, balls with holes (road hockey)
9 bases, 1 hoop
TACTICS: Work as a team in defense
Strike the ball where defense is not standing
Establish eye contact before passing the ball
DESCRIPTION:
Layer 1:
- The whole class is separated into two teams (7 v 7 or so)
- One team will bat while the other will be in defense
- When the batter strikes the ball, he has to run around the world to score
- If the defense catches the ball before it lands the striker is out
- The defense has to make passes around the world (to the four bases from first base to home in order to strike him out)
- The whole team will strike before switching offense and defense
- The thrower will be from the batting team
Layer 2:
- Defenders still have to throw at every bases but can decide the order
MODIFICATIONS:
- Move closer or further bases depending if it is too easy or too hard to score
- Reduce mandatory number of passes to bases before striking out the runner
SAFETY
- Use appropriate balls depending the strength of the students
- Separate the catching spot and the running spot to every bases
- Establish a warming-up zone
- Install the waiting line far from the batter and the warm-up zone
- The striker is not allowed to throw his bat when he swings
