CYCLE: II and III ACTIVITY LEVEL: Medium
MATERIAL: any types of baseball bats, balls with holes (road hockey)
2 bases, 2 cones
TACTICS: Work as a team in defense
Strike the ball where defense is not standing
Establish eye contact before passing the ball
DESCRIPTION:
Layer 1:
- The game is played with two teams (4 v 4 or so)
- One team will bat while the other will be in defense
- When the batter strikes the ball, he runs to the first base and come back home
- The ball has to pass between the 2 cones placed by the teacher
- If the defense catches the ball before it lands the striker is out
- The defense has to make only one pass to first base to strike out the runner
- The whole team will strike before switching offense and defense
- The thrower will be from the batting team
Layer 2:
- The thrower will be from the defending team (only gentle and underhand toss)
- The striker can be out after 3 strikes
Layer 3:
- The striker can score twice by running twice at the first base and coming back home
MODIFICATIONS:
- Move closer or further first base depending if it is too easy or too hard to score
- Open or reduce space between cones to hit
SAFETY
- Use appropriate balls depending the strength of the students
- Separate the catching spot and the running spot at first base
- Establish a warming-up zone
- Install the waiting line far from the batter and the warm-up zone
- The striker is not allowed to throw his bat when he swings
