GAME: Modified Hockey
TYPE: Territorial
CYCLE: II and III ACTIVITY LEVEL: Medium
MATERIAL: 6-12 tennis balls, 1 hockey stick per player, cones or tape
1 pinny per player (2 colors)
TACTICS: Keep possession of the ball
Move into a good position to score
Establish eye contact before passing and receiving
DESCRIPTION:
Layer 1:
- The game is played with 2 teams, split the class in 2
- 6 zones will separate players depending their team and their position
- 3 zones per team: defense close to the end line, midfield, and offense
- Zones are separated by the opposite territory
- The goal of the game is to take down the opponent’s pins by shooting at it
- Players are assigned to their zone and cannot move from it until the teacher makes substitutions
- The pins are placed on both end line
Layer 2:
- When the whole class has tried all 3 positions, one separating line can be removed
- Players of opposite teams are in the same area
MODIFICATIONS:
- Use cold at the start and move on to warm defense
- Restrict players to their area and decide if they are allowed to cross the line with their stick or not
- Use soft balls instead of tennis balls (if targets are too hard to take down)
SAFETY
- Make sure players let their sticks on the ground
- Players are not allowed to hit other’s sticks
- No slap shots (focus on accuracy)
- No physical contacts when players share the same area
