GAME: Duck Hunt TYPE:
Striking and fielding
CYCLE: II and III ACTIVITY LEVEL: Medium
MATERIAL: any types of baseball bats, 1 soft ball (small balls from dodgeball),
8 cones
TACTICS: Work as a team in defense
Strike the ball where defense is not standing
Establish eye contact before passing the ball
DESCRIPTION:
Layer 1:
- The game is played with two teams (8 v 8 or so)
- One team will bat while the other will be in defense
- When the batter strikes the ball, he runs to the base and come back home only if wants to
- If the defense catches the ball before it lands the striker is out
- In order to strike out a player defenders have to throw the ball directly at the opposite players
- The whole team will strike before switching offense and defense
- The thrower will be from the batting team
- First base is a base where more than one player can stand
Layer 2:
- The thrower will be from the defending team (only gentle and underhand toss)
- The striker can be out after 3 strikes
MODIFICATIONS:
- Reduce space inside of the first base
- Place further the two bases
- Add a third or a fourth base (small bases but not in a diamond shape, far from each other)
SAFETY
- Use appropriate balls depending the strength of the students
- Establish a warming-up zone
- Install the waiting line far from the batter and the warm-up zone
- The striker is not allowed to throw his bat when he swings otherwise he is out
