GAME: Chuck the chicken TYPE: Striking and fielding
CYCLE: II and III ACTIVITY LEVEL: Medium
MATERIAL: 1 soft ball (small balls from dodgeball), in a gym
TACTICS: Work as a team in defense
Strike the ball where defense is not standing
DESCRIPTION:
Layer 1:
- The game is played with two teams, split the class in 2
- The goal of the game is to make the more turns possible around their own team
- To do so, players have to throw the chicken away
- When the chicken is away, the team has to form a circle and the thrower will run around his teammates
- While running, the whole team will count the number of turns they have performed yet.
- To stop them, the opposite team has to catch the chicken, form a line and pass it through the whole line.
- The last person in the line has to be the thrower and that person will throw the chicken
- Throwers always have to be a new member of the team
- The game ends when everybody threw the chicken
- While throwing the chicken players have to yell “chuck the chicken”
MODIFICATIONS:
- Passes on the line has to be performed on a certain way (e.g. side to side or throw it to the person behind 1 meter away)
SAFETY
- Use appropriate balls depending the strength of the students
- Make sure the gym is clear of objects where the chicken could be hidden
